Scheme Components
PM-KUSUM comprises three main components:
Component A: Installation of decentralized, grid-connected renewable energy power plants (up to 2 MW capacity) on barren or fallow land.
Component B: Installation of standalone solar-powered agricultural pumps to replace existing diesel pumps.
Component C: Solarization of existing grid-connected agricultural pumps to reduce grid power consumption
Financial Assistance
Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, farmers are eligible for substantial financial support:
- Subsidy: Up to 60% of the total cost is provided as a subsidy by the government.
- Loan Assistance: 30% of the cost can be covered through loans facilitated by financial institutions.
- Farmer’s Contribution: The remaining 10% is to be borne by the farmer.
This financial structure ensures minimal upfront investment by farmers while promoting the adoption of solar energy
Benefits for Farmers
Reduced Irrigation Costs: Solar pumps eliminate the recurring cost of diesel or electricity for irrigation.
Additional Income: Farmers can earn by selling surplus electricity generated to the grid.
Environmental Impact: Adoption of solar energy contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions and promotes sustainable farming practices.
Energy Security: Reliable power supply for irrigation, leading to improved agricultural productivity.
